PHS/SPCA Housed Animals Rescued from the Katrina Hurricane Zone

The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA set up temporary, yet comfy temporary kennels for 64 dogs and cats displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly, caring for the frightened, disoriented and, in many cases, sick animals. Almost miraculously, we reunited nearly a quarter with their original owners and placed far more into new, loving, foster-to-adopt situations. Today, just three are still with us, awaiting homes, and you can see their profiles on our this site. We thank all the animals' well wishers, the dozens of new volunteers who came to us expressly because of this new need and the many, many more folks who donated supplies or funds which helped us care for our Gulf Coast visitors. For sure, it's been an experience few of us will ever forget!
