Wish List

You can help the animals at PHS/SPCA by donating any of the following items.

Ready to bring your donation to the shelter? We can accept donations in our Receiving Department during shelter hours:

11 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday
11 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday

High Priority items are listed below in bold.

For all the animals

  • Blankets and towels (used or new) we are currently in need of large heavy blankets
  • Paper towels
  • Newspapers
  • Clean pet carriers/crates (in good condition)
  • New squirt bottles
  • Used cell phones, pagers, and PDAs (for which we receive cash donations)
  • Used vehicle donations (Please email dtroy@phs-spca.org to receive vehicle donation instructions, or call 650-340-7022 ext. 389. Or you can download form and fax it to 650-348-7891)

For the dogs

  • New or clean collars and leashes
  • “Sensation” or “Easy Walk” harnesses
  • Unopened packages of dog treats
  • Creamy peanut butter (unopened)
  • Lavender oil (it’s relaxing for dogs too!)
  • Kongs (all sizes)
  • Hard rubber balls
  • Rope toys

For the cats

  • Canned tuna
  • Liquid KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer) – seasonal, late April to early November
  • Fancy Feast or Friskies cat food (for tempting finicky eaters)
  • Trader Joe’s Tuna for Cats
  • Ping-pong balls
  • Golf balls
  • Plastic film canisters
  • Plastic shower curtain rings
  • Feather toys
  • Large shoeboxes (without lids) for the cats to sleep in

    *If your knitting club would like to do a project for PHS/SPCA, the cats can use small, tightly-knitted blankets that are machine washable & machine dryable. Ideal size is between 2 ’x2’ and 2’x3’.

For the rabbits

  • Untreated wicker baskets (for chewing)
  • Plastic baby toys: keys, rattles, and other hard plastic toys (for tossing)

For the birds

  • Rope perches
  • Bird toys

For the reptiles

  • 50 watt Halogen Heat Bulbs
  • 60 watt Ceramic Heat Bulbs
  • Zoo Med 18” Repti Sun 10.0 UVB Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Zoo Med 36” Repti Sun 10.0 UVB Fluorescent Bulbs


For the fish

  • AquaClear 20 Activated Carbon insert
  • AquaClear 20 Ammonia Remover insert
  • AquaClear 20 Foam insert
  • AquaClear 50 Activated Carbon insert
  • AquaClear 50 Ammonia Remover insert
  • AquaClear 50 Foam insert

For the Wildlife

  • Toilet paper
  • Clean feather dusters for orphaned baby birds to cuddle up to
  • Clothes Washer (no dryer)  

*Items we cannot use:

Opened food, pillows, electric blankets, sleeping bags, carpet, small boxes, paper shreds, empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls, electronics for recycling, used ink/toner cartridges, and expired medication.
Please do not leave these items with our Receiving Department, as disposing of them incurs expense for the shelter.

These are one-time needs:

  • Leashes for our Behavior Department (preferably sturdy nylon)
  • One color laser printer for our Volunteer/Retail Services Department
  • New or gently used GPS (Garmin or any other major brand) can be used by our Animal Rescue & Control Vehicles

When you donate a one-time needs item from the above list, please be sure to label the item: “To Dana Troy, Development”. This will help facilitate the delivery of the one-time item to the corresponding department. Thank you!
